Sharon Haney
I was raised in Ohio, a land of painted barns and beautiful rolling countryside. A horse was my mode of transportation to and from friends’ homes, the skating pond in the winter and the beach in the summer. I lived and breathed horses and that is what I drew when I was young. Horses, horses and more horses!
My introduction to pastels came many decades later when I walked past a room where pastel art was being taught. I joined the next class and discovered my medium. Pastels are diverse, expressive, and reflective. The luminous colors which caught my eye captured my heart.
My paintings tell stories of life in far West Texas. The animals, cactus and people who occupy this space are my subjects and I enjoy capturing their images in everyday situations. A moment in time. The vistas of this Big Bend area are vast and beautiful with stunning light. Sunrises and sunsets create kaleidoscopic horizons.
Living among the cactus brings peace to my soul and beauty to my art.
I am a current member of Red Rock Pastel Society of Nevada, past President of the Pastel Society of Southeast Texas (PSST), past President of the Lone Star Art Guild (LSAG), and a current member of the Big Bend Arts Council (BBAC).
