Kathleen Griffith

Kathleen Griffith along with her husband, Tom Griffith fell in love with the Big Bend region while visiting Terlingua and the Chinati Mountain area. They purchased property with improvements near the village of Ruidosa, in the foothills of the Chinati Mountain Range in 2006, with the intention of relocating to the area after retirement.
They chose to move from San Antonio to Alpine in 2015 with all the cultural activities the town offered. Chinati remains an important 2nd home to visit and be surrounded by mountains, dark skies and only sounds of nature.

More about Kathleen's Artwork

When I arrived in Alpine, I came with a background in oil painting and creating scenes on ceramic tiles with glazes and china paint.
The art community in Alpine welcomed me and encouraged me to become a member of the BBAC and eventually a space to exhibit my art at Gallery on the Square.
It did not take me long to discover the art curriculum at Sul Ross. Consequently, I studied ceramics, fused glass and took a refresher course in oil painting.

The breathtaking light that moves across the landscape and the magnificent wildlife and foliage, continuously excites and inspires me to capture the movement and colors of the Big Bend region.
The past few years, I added fused glass and pottery to my art creations and I experience these new medias as another form of canvas on which to create images that inspire me.
Being a member of the art community and exhibiting my creations at GOTS is very rewarding. It especially pleases me when my art pieces are chosen by art patrons to grace their homes. I know they too appreciate the unique beauty that is seen and felt in our Big Bend region
